Preparation for departure
1. You can take unto 6 months salary advance from your department.
2. Take advance of around 1 lac for pre departure expenditures, you need this to apply for Visa, application of syracuse university, insurance for initial period etc.
3. Purchase travel insurance for initial 15 days from any reputed company icici pomade, tat a-aig. If family members are traveling with you purchase insurance for six months and ask for renewal for balance period.
4. US visa has the requirement of specific type of photograph. Normally all reputed photo shops in India have the idea of it. Be ready with your scanned photograph before applying for visa.
5.In university you have to submit, health record. The format of this is enclosed..........get this filled by your doctor and carry the originals with you.
5. After your selection by GOI for the program you have to apply separately to Syracuse University. For this purpose you require transcript Of your undergraduate degree from the university you passed out. It is a good idea to expedite this.
6. Ds-2019 is required for applying for US visa. Fill out the details of you and your family members correctly in the university application form and ensure that you get DS 2019 for you and family members, in time, for this you may have to follow up with Slutzer Center in the university. Send email, call them, they are always very helpful.
7. Apply for your official passport much as soon as receive intimation from dop and ensure that family members passport are not expiring until 6 months of your planned arrival back to India. If this is not the case, get it extended.
